In Memoriam

Harvey "Bum" Bright

Harvey Bright was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1920. After graduating from high school, Bright worked in the Texas oilfields. He later entered Texas A&M University and received a degree in petroleum engineering in 1943. Later he used the $6,500 he had saved from his Army pay and began trading oil leases with his college roommate. The two men eventually started Bright & Co., an exploration and production company, which would eventually become Bright Industries.

Clay V N Bright

Clay, son of Bum Bright, enjoyed life and knew it was about service, work, and family. Most of his work centered around a family related business, where he began and ended his work career. He was instrumental and guided the transition of that business from a primarily oil and gas and banking operation, to one based upon real estate homebuilding, and finance. His dedication and insight to those operations is irreplaceable. He lived for most of his life in Dallas where he graduated from Highland Park High School and his lifelong beloved alma mater Texas A&M University.

Christopher R Bright

Chris, son of Bum Bright, oversaw Bright Realty, as well as its parent company, Bright Industries, as CEO. He led the daily activities of Bright Industries, which was founded in the 1950s by his father, the late former Dallas Cowboys owner H.R. “Bum” Bright. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1971 and later the University of Dallas in 1978. He began his career with STM Mortgage Company, where he supervised STM’s real estate construction lending operations, and commercial loan placement and underwriting.
